John Kemeny and Thomas Kurtz develop the BASIC
programming language at Dartmouth College. BASIC is an acronym
for Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. (BASIC becomes
the most popular introductory programming language for microcomputers,
often stored in ROM, and executing commands interactively.)
